LARYNGEAL REINNERVATION

17 and 18th of November, 2025

PROF Jean paul marie

MD, PHD - ENT SURGEON - CHU Rouen - FRANCE

Prof Jean-Paul Marie, MD, PhD, is Head of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery and Audiophonology at the University Hospital in Rouen, Normandy, France. He is the Head of the Experimental Surgery Laboratory, school of Medicine, and Head of the Rouen University team UR 3830 GRHVN: Research Team on the Ventilatory and Neurology Handicap. He is co-funder of a University and Hospital Federation on Regenerative Surgery (FHU Surface), conducted by Prof B. Devauchelle. He has worked on laryngeal reinnervation for several years through animal research projects, and now applies these techniques in humans. With several french surgeons (conducted by Ph Ceruse), he is involved in a research project regarding laryngeal transplantation with reinnervation, with recent application in Lyon. He regularly presents his results at international conferences and workshops and teaches the reinnervation techniques in the Rouen Medical Training Center.

His main interest is in Phonosurgery, Neurolaryngology, but also Otology and Skull base surgery. He is a member of the ELS, EGFL and American Neurolaryngology Study Group. He is also former President of the French Society of Phoniatry

DR kate heathcote

Consultant ENT Surgeon - UNITED KINGDOM

Since 2013, Kate has been a consultant laryngologist at the Poole Hospital Foundation Trust on the South Coast of England. As Fellow to Professor Jean Paul Marie in Rouen, France, she learnt techniques of laryngeal reinnervation which she has continued to develop, research and introduce into the UK. A further laryngology fellowship at the RNTNE focused on airway procedures with Guri Sandhu and Phonosurgery with John Rubin.  She has a comprehensive NHS laryngology service in Poole offering a laryngology treatment clinic and voice clinic. She is working at disseminating good practice and educational content via the BLA.

She is on the council of the British Laryngological Association and is passionate about improving the management of voice, airway and swallowing disorders in the UK.

Prof aude lagier

ENT physician-surgeon and anatomist - CH LIEGES - BELGIUM

Aude Lagier has been working as an ENT-phoniatrician in the University Hospital of Marseille (France) and taught anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine (Aix-Marseille University, France) until 2016. At the University Hospital of Liege (Belgium) since 2016, her clinical activity focuses on the medical and surgical management of voice and swallowing disorders, particularly in the field of laryngeal immobility surgical treatments.
She also continues to teach head and neck anatomy at the University of Liege. Her Ph.D. in sciences of language dealt with the laryngeal physiology and phonotrauma using ex vivo human larynges. She continues her research on the functional anatomy of the larynx in close collaboration with the laboratories of an anatomy of the universities of Liege (Belgium) and Aix-Marseille (France), and with the « Speech and Language Lab » (UMR 7309, CNRS-Aix Marseille University).

Aims of the Laryngeal reinnervation Workshop

Unilateral and bilateral vocal fold paralysis have a totally different clinical presentation and different treatment.

The course is aimed at teaching anatomical basis and physiological knowledge, necessary to understand and treat laryngeal paralysis.

Surgical techniques of non selective and selective reinnervation will be detailed through theoretical talks and anatomical dissections. Hands on teaching will be favorized.

Nerve anastomosis will be demonstrated and microsurgical training will be proposed on several models.

Live surgery will be performed and shown to explain technical tips.

At the end of the course, all the attendants will be able to make these surgical techniques on their patients, if they have recognized the good indication.
